VALDA’S BEEN INTERVIEW AGAIN!

A Letter from Katie…

Pink Bunny… oh where do I start? She’s stubborn, overly accomplished for a small pink bunny, and very very bossy. Pinky, as I’ve always affectionately known her, both aggravated and delighted my childhood in equal measure. Somehow, she always seemed to have the answer. So, what can I, the very Katie from mum’s stories, tell you about this great woman in question? Simple- Pink Bunny is and always has been mum.

Mum, like Pinkie, is a very stubborn, bossy and highly accomplished woman herself who has always believed throughout her life in strong, educated, and capable women. There was nothing I got out of because I was scared, which has led me to a life of International travel and education. Perhaps out of competition I am endeavouring to be a doctor at the moment, 1 year away from finishing my doctorate, take that Pinkie!) Mum’s championing of women and girls, along with her genuine love of children and their upbringing, and her childlike charm is what makes this book and made me the strong woman I am.

The Story of Pink Bunny is the story of my youth. Sure, it started with my rude comment about a newly gifted rabbit sitting on my little yellow bookcase in a tiny beachside suburb, but what it grew into was a whole world of joy, play and knowledge. From that moment mum and I created a world, full of characters I have thought of as friends through-out my life. In fact, I was only thinking of this the other day when contemplating Botox- as a 6 year old child I flew off into a fury when Rainbow Rabbit had gone to get her eyelashes tinted and a skirt that hid her larger bottom (it seemed mum had been busy while I was at school!). The outcome was that Rainbow was grounded and told her body was beautiful the way it was. The outcome for me today, body confidence. That memory of Rainbow stopped me even considering it.

This is the wonderful world that mum has invited us all into with Dr Pink Bunny. A world that is full of pure childhood joy!

Katie

PS. It deserves to be said that although Pinkie is the titular character of this series, for me it’s her quietly spoken journalist husband that is and always has been my favourite teddy- Hamish McBear!
