Valda Locke was born in Perth, West Australia, in 1955, the daughter of a Latvian geophysicist/mathematician and a nursing aid. She gained a BSc (Extractive Metallurgy) from Murdoch University, eventually using it in diamond exploration. After her daughter was born in 1986, she became fascinated by the games they played together with various soft toys in their home, only later to put these characters into the first of her Bunny Series of books, The Story of Pink Bunny. After retiring from work, she volunteered part of her time to the primary school services at Perth Children’s Hospital, where she continues to work today. She lives just south of the port of Fremantle with her husband and two cats.
